Grade 1 Quarter 2 Matatag Daily Lesson Logs | SY 2024-2025 DLLs

A Daily Lesson Log (DLL) is a structured plan that guides teachers in delivering effective lessons. It includes essential components such as lesson objectives, the materials needed and the activities planned for the day. Teachers also incorporate assessment methods to gauge student understanding. This organization helps ensure that lessons are thorough and focus on the desired learning outcomes. Properly documented DLLs improve teaching practices and classroom efficiency. However, good lesson planning doesn’t always lead to successful learning. Students may still struggle even when plans are detailed. Common planning mistakes include:

  1. Activity-focused planning – This occurs when teachers choose an activity first, then create the learning objective to match the activity. This method can lead to disconnected objectives and activities.
  2. Coverage-focused design – This approach prioritizes completing curriculum tasks or external goals without considering the students’ unique needs. This may result in lessons that overlook essential skills or knowledge gaps.
  3. Excessive planning – Setting too many objectives or exercises can overwhelm both teachers and students. Covering too much content without focusing on clear goals leads to inefficiency.

Teachers need to shift their focus from simply delivering instruction to ensuring learning outcomes. Research shows effective planning includes:

  • Prior achievement – Consider the students’ starting point to tailor lessons.
  • Tailored learning – Define clear learning goals that align with students’ needs.
  • Advancement – Monitor students’ progress from beginning to end.
  • Collaboration – Work with other teachers to enhance planning and instruction.

Teachers must understand where students currently stand in their learning. Setting clear, achievable goals with specific success criteria helps students know what they are learning and how to measure their progress. Lesson plans should focus on helping students grasp key concepts, not just completing tasks. Effective planning ensures that students receive useful feedback and have the tools needed to succeed.
