New Guidelines for Teacher Lesson Planning and ICT Integration

The new guidelines aim to help teachers deliver high-quality instruction through effective planning and preparation. Teachers with at least one year of experience, including those from private schools and higher education institutions, no longer need to create Detailed Lesson Plans (DLPs). Instead, they should complete a weekly Daily Lesson Log (DLL). This change applies to teachers who have been in service for at least a year and work with learning materials provided by the Department of Education (DepEd). Experienced teachers can collaborate on preparing DLPs and DLLs and also mentor new teachers.

Research shows that effective teachers share a key trait: they plan, prepare, and reflect on their teaching. The DepEd Order supports changes in the curriculum and aims to enhance teachers’ capacity to provide quality instruction daily. The Department is dedicated to ensuring teachers are both effective and well-prepared.

In line with Republic Act No. 10533, or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, DepEd introduces Policy Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparation for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. These guidelines are designed to help teachers offer quality instruction that acknowledges students’ diverse needs, supports their success and incorporates various instructional and assessment strategies including information and communications technologies (ICTs).

ICTs are tools used to manage, store and exchange information. Integrating ICT in teaching involves using technology to enhance learning and develop both students’ and teachers’ skills. With ICT available in schools, teachers can use technology for lesson planning, delivery and assessment.

Computers can speed up lesson preparation, allowing plans to be computerized or handwritten. Schools can use ICTs to store lessons and create a database of plans accessible through a school website or the LRMDS portal. This provides teachers with a shared resource for lesson planning.

Teachers can also use technology throughout lessons, incorporating various instructional methods and tools. ICTs enable students to access, organize and process information, create products and collaborate with others. Integrating ICT in lessons helps differentiate instruction and supports diverse learning needs in the K to 12 classroom.
