New Guidelines for Daily Lesson Planning in K to 12 Program
The Department of Education (DepEd) issued new guidelines for daily lesson planning in the K to 12 Basic Education Program, aligning with Republic Act No. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013. These guidelines help teachers organize and manage their classes and lessons effectively, ensuring the achievement of learning outcomes.
Planning lessons is crucial for effective teaching and learning. The guidelines support teachers by providing a structured approach to lesson planning, which includes the use of the Daily Lesson Log (DLL) or Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP). This structured approach allows teachers to reflect on what students need to learn, how they learn best, and how to facilitate the learning process.
The guidelines emphasize the teacher’s role as a facilitator of learning. They empower teachers to provide quality instruction that acknowledges the diversity of learners, commits to their success, and uses varied instructional and assessment strategies, including information and communications technologies (ICTs). The guidelines also enable teachers to guide, mentor, and support students in developing and assessing their learning across the curriculum.
The K-12 Daily Lesson Log (DLL) is a template used by DepEd teachers to log parts of their daily lessons. The DLL covers a day’s or a week’s worth of lessons and contains the following parts:
- Objectives: This section includes goals related to content knowledge and competencies. It describes what teachers hope their students will learn from instruction.
- Content: This section specifies the topic or subject matter the lesson focuses on.
- Learning Resources: Teachers log the references and other learning materials they will use for the lesson. References include pages from the Teacher’s Guide (TG), Learner’s Material (LM), textbooks, and additional materials from the Learning Resources Management and Development System (LRMDS) portal. Other resources can be teacher-made or authentic materials not included in the references.
- Procedures: This section connects the lesson to learners’ prior knowledge, systematically teaching how the new lesson builds on previous lessons.
- Remarks: Teachers note special cases, such as the continuation of a lesson to the next day due to reteaching or lack of time, or the transfer of a lesson to the following day because of class suspension.
- Reflection: Teachers assess their effectiveness, noting the number of learners who achieved 80% in evaluations, those needing additional remediation, the success of remedial lessons, effective teaching strategies, and difficulties encountered that require help from principals or supervisors.
These guidelines aim to enhance the quality of education by ensuring that teachers are well-prepared to deliver effective and efficient lessons.
