Teaching Strategies of an Effective Teacher

When teaching concepts and skills clearly, effective teachers start each class with a brief goal statement and a review of prior, essential knowledge. They introduce new information in manageable segments, with student practice following each portion, and they give all students active exercise in addition to clear, in-depth instructions and explanations. They guide students throughout first practice by asking numerous questions, gauging student comprehension, getting responses from all students. They then follow up with methodical feedback, corrections, clear teaching, and practice for seatwork exercises. Once students are confident and self-assured, they continue practicing while supervising them during seatwork.

Clear and step-by-step instructions is the main teaching strategy used by effective teachers. As a result, they can give precise instructions, logically explain concepts, use concepts as models, offer feedback, and modify the material as necessary.

Assigning students with active, seatwork exercises that challenge them to examine, evaluate, and solve problems using real-world applications will help students remember what they have learned since they may repeat learning tasks and utilize acronyms to help them remember it. This enables students to exhibit their learning in a variety of ways and offers opportunities for metacognitive learning and self-reflection.

Lesson planning must follow a specific order, and each step of the order must correspond with the learning aim, activity, and evaluation in question. This alignment makes sure that students are completing tasks that contribute to the learning aim and are being assessed on that same purpose.

The design of the lesson must be coherent in order to determine how effective the planning was. A principal can deduce a teacher’s coherence in lesson design and the range of tactics being employed in the classroom from the objectives and the variety of tasks included in the plan. A written lesson plan may contain alignment, but that does not imply that the lesson or its sections are of high quality. This misalignment could result in reliability and validity evaluation problems.
