Quarter 4 Week 7 Lesson Exemplars (LE) and Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) SY 2024 – 2025

What is a Lesson Exemplar (LE)?

A lesson exemplar is a sample lesson that shows effective teaching practices aligned with curriculum standards. It helps teachers deliver engaging and structured lessons by providing clear objectives, learning tasks and assessment methods. Lesson exemplars become more impactful when combined with contextualization and localization which connect lesson content to students’ everyday lives and cultural backgrounds.

Contextualization makes lessons more meaningful by relating content to students’ real-world experiences and local culture. Similarly, localization adapts lessons to fit the local context ensuring that materials reflect community values and traditions. These approaches make learning more engaging and culturally relevant allowing students to connect better with the content.

Studies show that lesson exemplars and rubrics guide students in understanding quality standards and improving their work. When students analyze exemplars, they develop critical thinking and self-assessment skills. Incorporating contextualization and localization, lesson exemplars enhance understanding, boost academic performance and promote lifelong learning while also preserving cultural heritage.

What are Learning Activity Sheets (LAS)?

A Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) is a learning tool used to guide students in mastering lessons on their own. It includes activities, instructions and assessments aligned with the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs). LAS became crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic when the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) to maintain learning despite the transition from in-person to distance education.

LAS follows the IDEA model — Introduction, Development, Engagement and Assimilation. The Introduction phase presents the lesson’s objectives and key concepts. The Development phase introduces tasks to help students grasp and apply the lesson. In the Engagement phase, students participate in activities that promote critical thinking and connect lessons to real-life situations. Finally, the Assimilation phase encourages reflection and the application of knowledge in various contexts.

Similar to student worksheets, LAS provides structured tasks that enhance independent learning. They help students develop critical thinking, strengthen understanding and build essential skills. Using LAS in modular learning, teachers ensure that students stay engaged, learn effectively and continue progressing despite challenges.
