Assessment

Assessment plays a crucial role in educational development. Despite the benefits of formative assessment, its implementation has some issues. One major challenge lies in the perceived conflict between classroom-based formative assessments and high-stakes summative tests used to hold schools accountable for student achievement. Additionally, there is often a lack of alignment between assessment practices at the systemic, school, and classroom levels. To overcome these barriers, the principles of formative assessment should be extended beyond the classroom. Schools and policymakers can employ formative assessment at the broader levels to identify areas for improvement and cultivate a constructive culture of evaluation throughout the education system.

Promoting consistent use of formative assessment across education systems can help address the obstacles hindering its wider adoption in classrooms. By doing so, stakeholders can create an environment that values ongoing evaluation, encourages educational improvement, and supports equitable student success. Eventually, a comprehensive and balanced approach to assessment, encompassing both summative and formative methods, is essential for enhancing the educational experience and outcomes of students.
