New Guidelines Enhance Teacher Preparation and Instruction

The new guidelines aim to improve how teachers plan and deliver lessons, focusing on solid instructional planning. They help teachers be well-prepared for their classes. The guidelines have shortened the time needed for new teachers to create a Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) from two years to just one year. After completing this year, teachers will only need to maintain a Daily Lesson Log (DLL).

The guidelines also encourage teamwork among teachers and promote mentorship allowing experienced teachers to help newer ones with lesson preparation. The Department of Education (DepEd) acknowledges concerns about the new DLL format but assures that it is designed with teachers’ needs in mind. The new format is a tool for planning helping teachers allocate time and choose effective activities and assessments to meet lesson goals. It aims to enhance lesson delivery and overall teaching effectiveness.

Effective teachers often share a common trait: they plan, prepare and reflect on their teaching. This DepEd Order aligns with recent curriculum changes, which demand improved teaching capacity. The DepEd is dedicated to ensuring that teachers can provide quality instruction consistently.

In accordance with Republic Act (RA) No. 10533, also known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, the DepEd introduces these new Policy Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparation for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. These guidelines support teachers in offering high-quality instruction accommodating diverse learners, using various instructional and assessment strategies and leveraging information and communication technologies (ICTs). They also focus on guiding and mentoring learners to enhance their overall learning experience.
